Oak Park Burns

A couple of weeks ago, sixty-three graduating seniors at Oak Park High School responded to Representative William S. Broomfield’s plea to “love their country and respect their flag” by holding a burn-in under the flag pole outside their school.

Copies of the “American Creed” and color pictures of himself, both of which are sent to all graduating seniors of Oak Park High by Republican Broomfield at the taxpayer’s expense, were set to flame by the students.

The ashes remaining from their action were then packaged and sent through the mail to Representative Broomfield.

“We can’t buy that hypocrisy,” said senior Fagenson who was involved in the event. “Are we supposed to pledge ourselves to institutionalized racism or getting sent to Indo-China to kill our brothers and sisters? We stacked those lies in the trash can where they belong and burned them.”

Because the Pig Press, with its typical anti-youth mentality, continues to include people’s names and addresses within their articles, Don has been receiving some hate mail. “Mostly just cranks,” said Don. “Stuff like, ‘We’re going to turn all you Jews into soap.'”

No comment from Representative Broomfield.

Right on, Oak Park High!
