A group of Detroit artists and craftsmen have banded together to form a cooperative called Trans-Love Energies Unlimited. The participants will work to draw the local “underground” community closer together and help market its services in the aboveground world. Included in the organization will be rock bands, jazz groups, graphic artists, photographers, hip merchants, light-show companies, and other individuals and groups who can make use of its services.

The group’s energies will be directed in two major directions: (1) to draw the community closer together by offering free housing and job information services, free dances, concerts, and other happenings, and general leadership; and (2) to provide a cooperative booking agency for performers and for members who have services to perform.

As the cooperative gets organized, people who want to book bands, light-shows, get posters or small printing jobs done, etc., will be able to call one central number and contract the desired services through Trans-Love.

Future plans include a housing information center, which will keep lists of houses and apartments for rent; a job information service, which will provide information on full-and part-time jobs; a travel bureau, which will provide information on rides going from Detroit to other centers of activity; and a fleet of cars, known as Trans-Love airways, which will range the city giving people rides and getting them there on time.

The next public meeting of the group will be held at the Trans-Love Energies office on Wednesday, April 5th, at 8:30 p.m., to organize the April 28-30 Trans-Love Weekend, including a huge celebration on Belle Isle on Sunday, a free dance/concert in the Mart Room at WSU on the 28th, and a free mass jazz concert in the Community Arts Auditorium on Saturday night. The concert will feature the Detroit Contemporary 5, the Lyman Woodard Ensemble, and the bands of Joseph Jarman and Roscoe Mitchell from Chicago.

Anyone who is interested in joining Trans-Love is invited to this meeting. For information on this or any other event in town, call Trans-Love Energies at 831-6840.
