Wallace Headquarters Crunched

Fifth Estate # 62, Sept. 19-Oct. 2, 1968

PORT HURON—Two unidentified teenagers hurled broken concrete through two large plate glass windows of the Wallace Campaign Committee headquarters in Port Huron, according to state vice-chairman, James Hall.

Dean Cunningham, who is the chairman of the American Independent Party in St. Clair County, reported that police called him September 12 just after the vandalism had occurred.

He said he found the two corner windows of the building broken and two large signs which were plastered inside the windows were destroyed by the shattered glass and concrete.

Cunningham said the attack was the first indication of trouble but expressed his gratitude to the many volunteers who appeared at the Wallace headquarters to help clean up the mess.
